We are thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the OpenDP Summer Program! We have opportunities available for undergraduates, graduate students, and established professionals in industry and academia.
I’m an undergraduate student and I want to work on an OpenDP project.
Apply to join us as a summer intern! You’ll work side-by-side with a mentor from OpenDP and contribute to our work. There are a limited number of paid internship positions, so students who can apply for their own summer research funding are encouraged to do so and indicate it in their application. If you are an undergraduate student, please check your eligibility to apply for funding through Harvard’s REU program. You will be appointed as a Visiting Undergraduate Research Intern.
Applicants will also be considered for internships in the broader Privacy Tools Project. Some past OpenDP internships have led to published research papers or senior theses; interns who are interested in a research-oriented internships should indicate that on their application, and we will try to develop a project with a research component.

I’m a graduate student and I want to work on an OpenDP project.
Like our undergraduate interns, you’ll work with a mentor on an OpenDP project. All the information above still applies, but as a graduate student, you will be appointed as a Graduate Student Fellow.

I’m a researcher or professional and I want to collaborate part-time with OpenDP on my own project.
Apply to join us as a Visiting Fellow! OpenDP Visiting Fellows are part-time positions meant for engineers or scholars in industry or academia who wish to learn about and engage with the OpenDP software suite, bringing this knowledge back to their own work or organization, while also contributing to OpenDP in the process. During their fellowship, OpenDP Visiting Fellows will generally be supported by their own institution (e.g. being “detailed” by their company to OpenDP or using sabbatical pay). For Visiting Fellows from industry, we expect a contribution of additional financial support for the program and OpenDP. Learn more about our Visiting Fellows program here.

I’m an international student. Can I apply for the interns program?
Due to ongoing administrative delays from the federal government, we regret that OpenDP cannot guarantee visa sponsorship for our summer internship program this year. Nonetheless, OpenDP is a global initiative and we are committed to supporting international partners. If you do not have authorization to work in 2026, we would still love to stay in touch with you and find opportunities to collaborate! We encourage you to fill out our international student interest form.
What is the application deadline?
The application deadline for all programs is February 1, 2026.
