OpenDP is a community effort to build trustworthy, open-source software tools for the analysis of sensitive private data, and more generally advance the practice of differential privacy. This work enables users to draw valuable insights from sensitive data for use by society, governments, firms, researchers, and others, while providing the rigorous protections of differential privacy for the individuals represented in the data.
We welcome anyone to use the OpenDP software and to support the community’s efforts. Support may include reading documentation and sending suggestions; reporting bugs; installing the software and sending comments; using our work to improve the privacy protections offered by your organization, research, or project; contributing software or the associated mathematical proofs that guarantees the software does what we all expect; attending our community meetings; collaborating with us on research or implementation; or contributing financially to our core project team. We are happy to advise when appropriate and accept all contributions that advance our mission.
Part of our mission is to pursue use cases that open up sensitive data for research and exploration in the public interest. We also support a wider variety of use cases for differential privacy, in particular ones that advance the businesses of individuals, for-profit companies, nonprofits, governments, and other organizations. Pursuing such use cases has the potential to bring the benefits of differential privacy to society more widely and may even bring greater support to the OpenDP Project and community. We are not equipped to evaluate the privacy practices of organizations that use OpenDP software, and do not try to develop such assessments in deciding whether to collaborate. Everyone interested in differential privacy is welcome to join the OpenDP community.
